Programme Management

In our approach to Programme management we co-ordinate the management of projects and business-as-usual activities to achieve beneficial change. A programme is a unique and transient strategic endeavour undertaken to achieve a beneficial change and incorporating a group of related projects and business-as-usual activities.

We review the 10 areas of project and programme management:

• Integration
• Scope
• Time
• Cost
• Quality
• Procurement
• Human resources
• Communications
• Risk management
• Stakeholder management

We focus on the following key aspects of programme management:

Governance – defining the programme roles and responsibilities as well as the processes and metrics to assess its progress

Management – planning the projects and the overall programme, ensuring that regular reviews are undertaken and that stakeholders are engaged

Financial management – costs of managing the programme need to be tracked and controls need to be put in place

Infrastructure – creating the right work environment to support the programme
Planning – developing a programme plan based on the specific projects, resources, timescales and controls for the overall programme

Agile

Governance based on clear objectives and significant requirements will help program and agile teams to deliver benefits regularly and successfully. Agile PMs work through complex projects by collaborating and through rapid iteration cycles. Programme will help by co-ordinating multiple workstreams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Programme management and agile methods can help management ambiguity. This is because projects are predictive and agile methods are adaptive while programme management harmonizes them because it is both predictive and adaptive.
